On Saturday November 5th, I'll be shooting my fourth Maple City Cagefighting show out of Chatham, ON. Thomas Armstrong always puts on an entertaining card and this show should be a sell out as well. (Only a few tickets left) Once the fights start I'll be cage side ready to photograph the fights.
Maple City Cagefighting promotes Amateur Mixed Martial Arts fights out of Chatham, Ontario under the AMMAO organization. (Amateur Mixed Martial Arts of Ontario) Mark Ruddick Photography is a Fight and Fitness photography business out of London, Ontario, servicing from Detroit to Toronto.
Last Sunday, I had a private commissioned shot for a client involving professional wrestler. Ashley Sixx from Superkick'd Wrestling. It was a lot of fun to choreograph fight moves to look good on camera. The client let me use one of the images from the shoot for my portfolio, which is always appreciated.
Dameon Okposio of the DO Boxing Show came down last week to shoot with me bringing boxers Andre Pena and Tyrone Bradshaw. Video was shot!
This is a short video of me taking pictures for the fight posters for the PAFC event in August. Black Ties and Black Eyes presented by Prospect Amateur Fighting Championships with take place August 13th at the London Music Hall. Tickets are basically sold out, but the event will be broadcast live on Pay-per-view. I'm photographing the last of the fighters this weekend.
I've shot both of these guys before and I knew it was going to be a fast-paced, high action fight. Junmar always gives me great fights to shoot. Some fighters are easier to photograph than others. It was a great back and forth 10 rounds. Thanks to United Boxing for having me out.
Saturday I traveled to Toronto to shoot Destiny Fight Productions' Muay Thai show. Muay Thai fighters are as tough as they come, always in great shape and never back down. As always Destiny put on a great show in front of a nearly packed house where the crowd cheered as loud for the knock outs as it did for a well executed wai khru (the traditional ceremonial movements of the fighter preceding the fight to pay respect to their teachers). I basically only had house lights to work with for this extremely fast moving sport so my shooting had to be done at F2.0, 1/500th of a second, ISO3200, which is far from ideal. I hope to shoot more Muay Thai in the future.
On Saturday Feb 6th, I got to go over to Detroit to catch some boxing at the beautiful and historic Masonic Temple. The show was put on by Salita Promotions. It was a good action packed card with lots of local flavour. A really nice touch was the promoter, Dimitri Salita came over and spoke to everyone in the media section after the fights, a real class act. I love shooting fights in Detroit, it is a special, crazy atmosphere in the Motor City. Below are some of the good ones I captured.
