Spider Queen - Halloween Photoshoot
I’ve always thought Halloween is a great excuse to get a little weird and creative, and this Spider Queen photoshoot was definitely one of those projects. I wanted to create something that felt dark, dramatic, and a little creepy without losing the strong visual style I look for in my photography.
The whole idea started with the Spider Queen costume. Once the costume, skull, webs, and overall look came together, it was pretty easy to start imagining the kind of images we could create. There’s something about a Halloween-themed shoot that gives you permission to push things further than you normally would.
I really enjoyed playing with the contrast between the human form and all the creepy details. The spider webs and skull added plenty of atmosphere, while the posing and lighting kept the images from becoming just a typical Halloween costume shoot. I wanted each photograph to feel like it had a little story behind it.
As with any shoot, some of my favourite images were the ones that happened when we experimented and tried something slightly different. That’s one of the reasons I enjoy photography so much. You can start with an idea, but the final images often take you somewhere you didn’t expect.
This Spider Queen session was a fun chance to combine Halloween, character, and my love of photographing the human form. It was dark, dramatic, and definitely a little spooky—which is pretty much exactly what I was hoping for.

- Mark Ruddick Photography - My images are an exploration of the human body under muscle stress — understanding the body’s strength, flexibility, and power. Creating these images has given me a better understanding of the human form which has transitioned into my commercial fitness work.

I love to tell stories as anyone who's worked with me can attest. That includes visual stories through photographs. Let me tell your story and provide high impact images of you to sponsors, agencies, family or just for yourself.
