We did a couple of quick set, because when you work with a good model you only need a short time. Including her fight April and I have probably shot together 7 or 8 times now. Fitness Session with Rob

As soon as Rob walked in I was a little surprised. Physique guys are supposed to be that big and they aren’t supposed to have well developed legs. That’s the category at the national level now. Rob got second place at the Canadian National Pro Qualifier in Masters Physique. He looks like he’d be ready to step on stage in the classic bodybuilding category. All that aside Rob was a great guy to photograph, super hard working and friendly. Thanks to Showtyme Fitness for hosting the photo shoot. Here’s a few images from our shoot.

Dance Session with Bram

Dancer Bram from London Dance Ensemble came into the studio for some pictures. I had a couple of concepts in mind for the shoot.

First I wanted some big jumps isolating the dancer on black. I wanted to introduce some hard shadows into the images for a more dramatic effect as Bram was in very good shape.

The second was a hard single point of light to accentuate the dancer’s shadow on the studio wall. I played around with my modifiers until I got a hard shadow line like I was looking for. Once that was set we got big leaps and great shadows of the dancer.

Tyson Dux Wrestling Factory

I went to the Tyson Dux Wrestling Factory last week. I enjoyed pro wrestling as a kid and I was aware of this place for a while now. I reached out and we arranged a time to come down. My friend Stephen Yule assisted that night. The first thing that struck me was how loud the ring was. At ringside the noise from a fall was pretty loud, I may bring earplugs next time. I watched a lot of amazing athletes practice their craft and do some really good high flying maneuvers. Now that I have a game plan I’ll get better, more interesting images next time I go.

Athletic Nude with Karina

Karina came to the studio a short while after her competition, in which she did well. Karina was extremely well conditioned and it really showed nicely in the hard contrasting light. We did a lot of beautiful poses and Karina was really athletic too and did a great handstand. I always appreciate athletes taking time out of there training to do this project with me.

- The Athletic Implied Nudes series is an exploration of the human body under muscle stress— understanding the body’s strength, flexibility, and power. Clean backgrounds, hard lighting, and black & white photography work together to eliminate distractions and highlight the muscle groups and figure of my subjects.

Beginning with Mixed Martial Artists and Boxers, I have developed my technique to capture rapidly firing muscle groups at high speed in front of the lens. The resulting instinct for timing fight photography has lead to an ability to freeze my subjects at the peak of their motion. Discovering a better understanding of the human form with this project has transitioned into my commercial fitness work, maximizing composition and positioning to best showcase the human form.

Engagement Photos - Marc & Caroline

Normally I don't do engagement photos, wedding photos or family photos. On rare occasions when friends ask I will. Such was the case when professional boxer Marc "El Gwapo" Pagcaliwangan and amateur boxer Caroline Cassin asked me to shoot their engagement pictures. They wanted them done in the boxing ring. Marc is the head boxing coach at Platinum Training Facility so it was a no-brainer to have the session there in Platinum's beautiful new boxing ring. Here's a few pictures from their session. If you're looking to get wedding or engagement photos done, I can recommend some great local photographers for that.

Fitness Shoot with Moe

This summer I shot with Moe in studio. She and I have done fitness photos a few times before. She's transitioned away from competition and he developed a great maintainable physique. Moe's up every morning around 4AM to work out, you have to admire the dedication.

Melissa, a client of Demelo Fitness booked a photoshoot at the end of her program. Josh's clients always come in great shape and great attitudes. We did the shoot at Showtyme Fitness, I've done many shoots there before and is always fun place to visit.
