I wanted to try a different lighting scheme and camera perspective than I normally use. Jaclyn was kind enough to help me out with it even though the space and setup were restrictive to her movements.

I mounted the camera on a boom and shot straight down. For lighting I used two very large softboxes, gelled with red, horizontally oriented, cross lighting the model at camera left head and camera foot. Many thanks to Sean for helping me with the setup, including the heavy lifting.

This is the first image I edited out of the session.

Pet Portrait with Decker

Decker, a Portuguese Cattle Dog, came into the studio last week for some pet portraits. He was super well behaved and liked exploring the studio. We got some really nice pictures that captured his personality.

Earlier this year a couple of models came into studio for some figure study work. It ended up being a great collaboration so at the end of the shoot we decided to self-publish a small magazine of the shoot for fun.

Knock out Kidney Disease Posters

A couple of weeks ago Jamie Champion of Prospect Fighting Championship came to me about shooting the promo pictures for his upcoming event "Knock out Kidney Disease" in conjunction with Showdown in the Downtown. Mattia Del Cul-Hovorka was selected as the model and we decided to take the pictures at Warriors' Boxing and Fitness in London, ON. It is going to be a dinner / kickboxing event.

We got a bunch of really good pictures, then selected a few really good ones and got to work on creating the posters. We came up with 2 similar posters featuring the photography. I'm really happy with how they turned out.

Amatuer Boxing at Warriors' Boxing

Rob Caron, owner of Warriors' Boxing and Fitness in London, ON put on a great boxing show Saturday night. The event was sanction by Boxing Ontario. It was an exciting night of fights with 3 stoppages, Scott Lamont's boxing debut and an absolute slug-fest for the main event. The event was well attended by over 300 people. I'm really looking forward to the next event.

Spartan Cosplay with Lori for a Cause

Fitness model and all around bad-ass, Lori, came down from Ottawa to shoot her new cosplay with me. Lori is touring with the costume and setting up shoots all over the province and donating the proceeds to a military charity. It is a great cause and I'll be donating some prints to the charity as well. If you are interested in a print, let me know.

Lori built her costume from scratch, no pre-made pieces on this one. It looks fantastic and photographs even better. Message her to setup your own shoot. She really had the physique to pull this off as a fitness competitor.

Fresh off of winning at the UFE London show Terri came into studio for a fitness shoot. She came into the studio in great shape and we had a lot of fun making the images.

DO Boxing Show - Behind the Scenes at our Promo Shoot

I had my good friend Dameon Okposio come into studio to update his head shots.

Dameon created a behind the scenes video of the shoot for his YouTube show: DO Boxing Show.

You can always use a good head shot for business. Dameon does a lot of seminars and speaking engagements so the pictures really support him. In addition Dameon writes for and publishes Below the Belt Magazine. We did some basic portrait work with Dameon in his unique shirts and then went on the head shots.

Global Legacy Boxing - Fight for the Falls

I finally got out to my first  Global Legacy Boxing event: Fight for the Falls. It took place in Niagara Falls, close to where I grew up. The event took place at the Scotiabank Convention Centre. I had only met a couple of the boxers on the card and I was eager to meet some new people. The event was a sell out and had great production value. It was nice to see a lot of my boxing friends there.

Professional Wrestler Sienna came from Detroit to do a fun, promo shoot with me. We captured some of her MMA moves, then her wrestling stuff and then some random fun stuff after. Sienna was fun to be around and was willing to try all of the bizarre idea I had with her jumping off of things, etc.

Couples Fitness Photo Shoot (NSFW)

Stefan and Korinne came to the studio to get some fitness pictures done together but with a twist. They wanted to do couples implied nudes during the fitness. We had lots of fun coming up with a bunch of poses. The implied element is certainly a little more difficult with 2 people but I think the images turned out really well and the clients were very happy with them.

Fitness Photo Shoot with Classic Bodybuilder Mike

The stereotype is bodybuilders are dumb jocks. In my experience it couldn't be further from the truth. Most of the fitness people I have met and worked with have been smart, kind and thoughtful. Mike is a perfect example of this, he's in his Doctorate of chiropractic program and genuinely a nice guy and has a great physique to work with. I hear a lot of photographers talk about drama with their clients and models. I feel so lucky there's none of that working with fitness people and fighters. 

Mike came down to Showtyme fitness, a great hardcore private gym in London, ON for some gym pictures. It was the day after competition for Mike, who took home first place in his class, so we kept the weights low, shot slow and steady and had a couple of meal breaks. Mike hit the poses hard and had a real appreciation of where body building came from. When planning the session one of the guiding principles was "Think Frank Zane rather than Phil Health"

Mike had this to say about the shoot "Absolutely amazing photos and great man who takes pride in all aspects of his work. Definitely recommend to anyone who wants a photographer who will take the time to make them the best version of them self."
