Global Legacy Boxing - Fight for the Falls

I finally got out to my first Global Legacy Boxing event: Fight for the Falls. It took place in Niagara Falls, close to where I grew up. The event took place at the Scotiabank Convention Centre. I had only met a couple of the boxers on the card and I was eager to meet some new people. The event was a sell out and had great production value. It was nice to see a lot of my boxing friends there.

Main Event - Niagara Falls Boxer Phil Lo Greco wins by decision

Kane Heron delivers the shot and improves to 7-0 as a professional boxer by decision.

Bradley Wilcox out of Steeltown Boxing in Hamilton Ontario wins his first professional fight by way of TKO.

Marko Szalai starts the night off with a bang with a brutal knock out. At one point it looked like his opponent's soul had been knocked out of the body, thankfully he is alright.

Photos with Professional Wrestler Sienna

Professional Wrestler Sienna came from Detroit to do a fun, promo shoot with me. We captured some of her MMA moves, then her wrestling stuff and then some random fun stuff after. Sienna was fun to be around and was willing to try all of the bizarre idea I had with her jumping off of things, etc.

Naked Science - My Fitness Image on the Cover

My friend and model Stefan Perras wrote an e-book and selected one of my images as the book cover.

Couples Fitness Photo Shoot (NSFW)

Stefan and Korinne came to the studio to get some fitness pictures done together but with a twist. They wanted to do couples implied nudes during the fitness. We had lots of fun coming up with a bunch of poses. The implied element is certainly a little more difficult with 2 people but I think the images turned out really well and the clients were very happy with them.

Fitness Photo Shoot with Classic Bodybuilder Mike

The stereotype is bodybuilders are dumb jocks. In my experience it couldn't be further from the truth. Most of the fitness people I have met and worked with have been smart, kind and thoughtful. Mike is a perfect example of this, he's in his Doctorate of chiropractic program and genuinely a nice guy and has a great physique to work with. I hear a lot of photographers talk about drama with their clients and models. I feel so lucky there's none of that working with fitness people and fighters.

Mike came down to Showtyme fitness, a great hardcore private gym in London, ON for some gym pictures. It was the day after competition for Mike, who took home first place in his class, so we kept the weights low, shot slow and steady and had a couple of meal breaks. Mike hit the poses hard and had a real appreciation of where body building came from. When planning the session one of the guiding principles was "Think Frank Zane rather than Phil Health"

Mike had this to say about the shoot "Absolutely amazing photos and great man who takes pride in all aspects of his work. Definitely recommend to anyone who wants a photographer who will take the time to make them the best version of them self."

Fitness Photo Shoot with Chantal

Chantal, a week off her win at the OPA Provincial Championships, came into studio with me. We split the difference and met in Mississauga at Peter House Studios.

Chantal was great to work with and had an amazing physique. I definitely recommend working with her. We got a few looks in during our shoot and we plan on shooting again closer to the CFBB National competition.

Boxing Training Session with Kara - Old School

The first time I photographed anything to do with boxing was 3 years ago when Kara invited me to shoot her training session. The photo session took place at Boomerz Boxing Club a beautiful old school boxing gym located in downtown London. With the exposed brick, wood floors and old time posters I knew this had to be photographed in black and white. Kara's striking coach is Gord Riddell who's worked with some of the top fighters in London. (and yes his fist is legitimately the size of her face)

It was really great to look back on this shoot that started me off in boxing and allowed me to meet some many great people, like Lawrence Boom. I have to get back out to Boomerz to photograph another training session soon.

Fitness Boot Camp Photoshoot - Gaudet Fitness Solutions

I've worked with Shelley Gaudet of Gaudet Fitness Solutions out of Paris Ontario before. She runs small group personal training to people. Myself and Melissa O'Leary (makeup artist) went out to Shelley's fitness studio / property. I photographed 4 of her clients all around the property as a milestone to their personal fitness journey. Everyone of her clients exuded an amazing amount of positive energy, a real testament to Shelly's training and methods. Afterwards we did a few group pictures which turned out great. I look forward to working with more of Shelly's clients this Saturday coming up.

Portrait Session with Boxing Magazine Owner Dameon Okposio

I had my good friend Dameon Okposio come into studio to update his head shots. You can always use a good head shot for business. Dameon does a lot of seminars and speaking engagements so the pictures really support him. In addition Dameon writes for and publishes Below the Belt Magazine. We did some basic portrait work with Dameon in his unique shirts and then went on the head shots.

I only know one joke, but it's a good one.

Long Exposure Dance Shoot with Deanna

I'd like to start off with saying thank you to Sean Allott, over the past couple of years he has taught me so much about photographic lighting. (Amongst other things) His continued support and guidance has made me a better photographer. One of the first things he taught me was "model safety is very important, model comfort is not, just get the shot" The other night he showed me mixed continuous and strobe lighting to show motion trails on a moving subject. It was a very cool lighting experiment for me. It's important to experiment and grow your skill set.

The model for this photo shoot was Deanna. We played around with some dance moves and other poses. She was super patient as I was learning a new lighting setup while using a camera I had never shot with before. I think we got some really cool looking shots and next time I will definitely be better and more creative with the process.

I played around with mixed continuous light and strobes for different visual effects as well as multiple strobes fires within the same exposure.

Steven Wilcox - WBA-NABA Super Lightweight Title Fight

Three Lions Promotions put on another great pro boxing event in Hamilton, Ontario. Steven "The Piranha" Wilcox defended his WBA-NABA Super Lightweight belt. Despite having to fight the last 4 rounds with only one hand, Steven was never in any trouble during the fight and dropped his opponent twice in the 6th round. A great night of fights overall.

Three Lions Promotions - June 3rd Boxing Event - Behind the Scenes

Three Lions Promotions put on another great pro boxing event in Hamilton, Ontario. 5 good fights, including the WBA-NABA Super Lightweight title fight. I got to see a lot a familiar faces and meet some new people as well. I shot behind the scenes in the dressing rooms before heading ringside for the title fight. Thanks to Three Lions for giving me exclusive access to all of the dressing rooms.

Reform Fitness Trainer Bianca

Bianca, a personal trainer for REFORM Fitness came to the studio for promotional images. She's very athletic and a kick boxer who was really willing to make some serious moves to great great images. Outstanding physique and an outstanding attitude make for a superior photo shoot. We did some images on white and some on the dark background. Lots of fun was had be the owner of Reform Fitness with the wind machine. Hair and makeup (Alessia Ferraro) was less amused!

Ontario Boxing Hall of Fame Inductions - 2017

I was back for my second year at the Ontario Boxing Hall of Fame induction ceremony. A great day of events put on my Dameon Okposio. It was an emotional ceremony with more than one recipient in tears by the end of their speeches. A lot of deserving boxers and builders were inducted.
